I've tried everything and honestly think it's better to just pay for Sai. It's fairly inexpensive (5k yen, about the price of one medium size set of colour pencils) and really nothing rivals it in usability. I even paid for Clip Studio Paint and only really use it for effects and the manga panels because Sai's so comfortable.
